Spain: Classic Cities, the Arts, and Andalusia
Introduction
All of our journeys can be completely personalized and curated with our commitment to sustainable tourism.
Journey Overview
Begins in Barcelona, with ample time to take in both the modernist architecture of the Eixample and the older streets of the Gothic Quarter. A private guide brings context to Park Güell and the Sagrada Família, tracing the ideas, engineering, and spiritual ambition behind Gaudí’s work. Another morning follows the city’s food culture, from La Boqueria to neighborhood markets, artisan shops, and café counters that remain part of daily life. On the final evening, La Pedrera opens after hours, with Gaudí’s rooftop chimneys above the city, the Sagrada Família in the distance, and cava served after the public day has ended.
A short flight south brings the journey to Granada, where the Alhambra is experienced with private access before the public day begins. The Nasrid Palaces, Generalife gardens, and Alcazaba fortress can be seen in the rare quiet that gives the complex its full effect. Later, the route moves through the Albaicín, the old Arab quarter set above the city, and into Sacromonte, where cave dwellings, Romani heritage, and flamenco traditions give Andalusia a character found nowhere else in Spain.
From Granada, the route continues by AVE train to Córdoba en route to Seville. The stop centers on the Mezquita-Cathedral, where Roman, Visigothic, Islamic, and Christian histories remain visible within one extraordinary building, creating one of Europe’s most remarkable sacred spaces. Time in Córdoba’s historic quarter adds another perspective before the journey continues to Seville.
In Seville, three nights allow time for the Cathedral, the Alcázar, the Barrio de Santa Cruz, and independent exploration of one of Andalusia’s most atmospheric cities. Evenings move from tapas at a table most visitors would never find to an intimate flamenco performance where guitar, voice, and dance fill a small room with unusual intensity.
Madrid closes the journey with five nights devoted to the capital’s art, royal history, and food culture. A full day with a leading art historian connects the Prado, Reina Sofía, and Thyssen-Bornemisza, moving from Velázquez and Goya to Picasso, Flemish masters, and modern American painting. The Palacio Real opens privately after public hours, with a court historian and no other visitors in the rooms. The Sunday Rastro market, a day in Toledo, and a guided food circuit through Madrid’s barrios complete the journey with a city shaped by art, appetite, ceremony, and everyday life.
