Journey Overview

From the Acropolis and Mycenae to Delphi, Meteora, and the royal tombs of Vergina, this sixteen-day journey connects the defining monuments of ancient Greece with the stone villages, mountain landscapes, and living traditions of the mainland.

Begin in Athens, where the Acropolis, Parthenon, Erechtheion, and Temple of Athena Nike establish the architectural and political foundations of classical Greece. Continue through the Acropolis Museum, trace archaeological remains preserved beneath the modern city, and experience the flavors of the country through the historic lanes of Plaka.

Continue into the Peloponnese for the theater and healing sanctuary at Epidaurus, the Bronze Age citadel of Mycenae, and three nights in Nafplio shaped by regional cooking, Venetian architecture, and time along the waterfront.

At Delphi, one of Greece’s most important historical and mythological sites, follow the Sacred Way to the Temple of Apollo, where rulers, generals, and city-states sought the counsel of the ancient world’s most powerful oracle. Descend from the slopes of Mount Parnassus toward the vast olive grove below before continuing into Epirus for Ioannina’s silversmithing tradition and Zagori’s deep gorge, arched bridges, clear rivers, and stone-built villages.

Metsovo introduces the food and mountain culture of the Pindos before Meteora brings the journey to its monastic and visual climax. Visit the monasteries at the quieter edges of the day and trace the caves and cliffside shelters of the first ascetics.

The final passage crosses Macedonia through the royal tombs of Vergina and concludes in Thessaloniki, where Roman monuments, Byzantine churches, Ottoman neighborhoods, Sephardic Jewish history, markets, and the waterfront bring Greece’s long historical continuum into the present.

Highlights

Walk through the Propylaea to the Parthenon, Erechtheion, and Temple of Athena Nike before continuing to the Acropolis Museum.

Taste Greece through the lanes of the ancient Plaka, meeting producers and sampling olive oil, thyme honey, regional cheeses, Greek coffee, souvlaki, and loukoumades beneath the Acropolis.

Trace the early foundations of scientific medicine at Epidaurus, where the sanctuary of Asclepius brought ritual, observation, treatment, and recuperation together beside one of the ancient world’s greatest theaters.

Pass beneath the Lion Gate at Mycenae, following Cyclopean walls and royal graves into the fortified center of a kingdom that shaped the legends and power of Bronze Age Greece.

Prepare a four-course Peloponnesian meal in Nafplio, then leave time to enjoy the waterfront, Venetian streets, and relaxed rhythm of Greece’s elegant yacht haven.

Climb the Sacred Way at Delphi to the Temple of Apollo, where the ancient world sought the counsel of its most powerful oracle beneath Mount Parnassus.

Navigate Zagori’s village-to-village footpaths, sixteenth-century steps, and arched stone bridges before rafting beneath plane trees on the clear waters of the Voidomatis River.

Ascend Meteora’s sandstone pillars to the dramatic edge-top monasteries, hermit caves, and cliffside platforms.

Descend into the royal burial mound at Vergina, where the intact tomb attributed to Philip II preserves the power and artistry of ancient Macedonia.

Conclude in Thessaloniki through its café culture, Roman monuments, Byzantine churches, Ottoman upper town, Sephardic Jewish history, markets, and cosmopolitan waterfront.
