Morocco & Tunisia: Civilizations, Caravans & Kasbahs
Introduction
All of our journeys can be completely personalized and curated with our commitment to sustainable tourism.
Journey Overview
The journey begins in Tunisia, where more than two thousand years of Mediterranean history remain unusually visible across a compact landscape. Phoenician Carthage, Roman Dougga and El Jem, the early Islamic center of Kairouan, Ottoman-era Tunis, and towns shaped by Andalusian migration create a remarkable progression through the civilizations that contested, governed, and transformed this part of North Africa.
From Tunis, explore the capital, Carthage, and the blue-and-white hillside village of Sidi Bou Said before traveling inland to Dougga and Testour. The journey continues south through Monastir and Sousse to Kairouan and El Jem, where Tunisia’s Roman and Islamic histories are encountered within the landscapes and communities that have grown around them. Time on the Mediterranean coast in Hammamet closes the Tunisia portion of the journey before continuing west to Morocco.
Arriving in Morocco, travel to Fes, one of the great historic cities of the Islamic world, where two full days explore the remarkable connections between craft, trade, religion, scholarship, and daily life. Within the medina, tanneries, textile workshops, food markets, religious monuments, and historic trading inns reveal a city still closely connected to the traditions that shaped it.
From Fes, continue to Marrakech, where palaces, gardens, the Ben Youssef Madrasa, souks, and food markets provide a different expression of Moroccan history and culture. Evenings bring the energy of Jemaa el-Fnaa and a private dinner with a traditional Moroccan storyteller, while La Mamounia provides a luxurious sanctuary within the city.
Beyond Marrakech, the landscape changes as the road climbs into the High Atlas. A visit to a Berber village or weekly market brings the mountain communities of the region into the journey before arriving at Kasbah Tamadot. Surrounded by valleys and peaks, the final days are left largely unstructured, with time to enjoy the setting and the property at a slower pace.

Move from the extraordinary Roman mosaics of the Bardo Museum into the markets, courtyards, workshops, and religious architecture of the historic Tunis medina.
Cross the hilltop ruins of Dougga, where temples, baths, streets, and a remarkably preserved theater form one of North Africa’s most complete Roman cities.
Trace Tunisia’s religious and architectural history through Kairouan before stepping inside the immense amphitheater of El Jem, one of the Roman world’s most striking surviving monuments.
Pause along the Mediterranean in Hammamet, with time to enjoy the coast and warm waters.
Go behind the surface of the Fes medina through its working traditions, meeting artisans and tracing the relationships between tanneries, textiles, food markets, workshops, and historic trading inns.

Share a private terrace dinner with a traditional Moroccan storyteller, as history, legend, and folklore bring Marrakech’s oral traditions vividly to life.
Discover another side of Marrakech through the Majorelle Garden and Musée Yves Saint Laurent, where architecture, landscape, fashion, and design reveal the city’s influence far beyond its historic monuments.
