Morocco: Coasts, Kasbahs, and Saharan Sands
Introduction
All of our journeys can be completely personalized and curated with our commitment to sustainable tourism.
Journey Overview
The journey opens in Casablanca with a private morning at the Hassan II Mosque, one of the few in Morocco accessible to non-Muslim visitors, its minaret visible from the Atlantic. Lunch along the Corniche, then north to Tangier.
The Fairmont Tazi Palace sits above the city looking toward Spain, and Tangier is unlike anywhere else in Morocco. The American Legation Museum, the only American National Historic Landmark on foreign soil, anchors one morning. A private guide moves through the Kasbah and the Grand Socco into the layered city that has spent centuries being neither fully European nor fully African. The drive south pauses in Tetouan's UNESCO-listed Andalusian medina before reaching Chefchaouen and Lina Ryad for the night.
The road to Fes passes through Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in North Africa, and Meknes, where the Bab Mansour gate stops most people mid-step. Riad Fes Relais and Chateaux sits inside the medina walls. Two full days with a private guide moves through the tanneries, the textile quarter, and the Al-Qarawiyyin, the oldest continuously operating university in the world, ad offerds time for independent exploration.
South through the Ziz Valley and into the pre-Saharan landscape of Skoura. Dar Ahlam, the House of Dreams, is a 19th-century kasbah in a palm grove at the desert's edge, where meals are never served in the same location twice and one night moves to a private camp in the dunes, with a sunset tea ceremony and dinner by fire. Excursions reach the Dades and Todra gorges and Berber villages whose residents have known the property's team for years. The drive to Marrakech passes through Aït Benhaddou with a private guided visit and lunch before the Atlas crossing.
La Mamounia is home in Marrakech. The medina and souks, the Majorelle Garden, the Bahia Palace, and the Ali Ben Youssef Medersa fill the days with a private guide. The final Marrakech morning begins at Al Kawtar, a non-profit embroidery workshop employing women who support people with disabilities, before the drive into the Atlas foothills. The Asni weekly market and Berber villages above the valley lead to Kasbah Tamadot, Richard Branson's Virgin Limited Edition property for a luxurious and relaxing finale.
