Journey Overview

This ten-day journey unfolds from Albania’s southern coast to its evolving capital, following a route shaped by geography, history, and everyday life. Days begin along the Ionian Sea in Sarandë, where salt air, open water, and quiet movement along the coast set the tone before the journey turns inland.

At Butrint, ancient ruins rise from wetlands and woodland, where stone, water, and birdsong create a setting that feels both inhabited and untouched. In Gjirokastër, the weight of stone houses, the sound of footsteps on cobbled streets, and the presence of active workshops reflect traditions carried forward through craft, food, and family life.

Moving north, the road passes olive groves and farmland to Apollonia, where exposed columns and wide skies emphasize the scale of the ancient site. Time in Berat brings narrow lanes, hillside views, and the rhythm of daily life within the castle walls. Along the Adriatic, sea light, working ports, and vineyards connect Roman history with contemporary Albania.

The journey concludes in Tirana, a city shaped by contrast, energy, and reinvention. Throughout, private guiding, regional producers, and measured transitions allow Albania to be experienced through movement, conversation, and atmosphere rather than observation alone.
