Beyond Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi are areas where few Western visitors have traveled, but which have been the ancestral homelands of many of Vietnam’s indigenous people. The Evolved Traveler’s 3-night luxury journey, “Hanoi Extension” takes you off-the-beaten-track to find and immerse yourself in these fascinating cultures.

Destination Overview

Just about 45 miles from the fast-paced and energetic capital of Hanoi, the province of Hoa Binh is home to the rural ethnic Muong people. A microfinance project here is enabling women to further their educational and aspirational goals, and you have the opportunity to meet one of the recipients and learn how she plans to use the loan to better herself and her community. Take part in traditional rural activities such as rice harvesting, tending livestock, and night fishing. Your meals are taken with the locals, and your overnight is spent in a traditional stilted house.

Continue to the Mai Chau Valley, an area surrounded by jungle-clad mountains, which is home to the Thai ethnic people. Visit the Mo Luong Cave and bike ride through the villages and rice paddies. Trek through Xa Linh village to Pa Co, where the Green Hmong hill tribe lives. Your last evening brings you back to contemporary (and busy!) Hanoi. Dinner will be at a training school for the culinary arts that helps disadvantaged young people learn the skills needed to run their own restaurant.

Carbon Offset

The Evolved Traveler is allocating $95 per person* in conjunction with our partners, Offset Alliance,  to help offset this journey through verified carbon removal and reversals projects.

The amount is determined by calculating the carbon footprint for this journey considering flights to the destination, intra-tour flights if applicable, hotel stays, and ground transportation. An additional 25% is added to the static factors to offset components we cannot immediately account for, such as food.

The carbon emissions accounted for are calculated by using measurement benchmarks determined by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. The projects our carbon-offset donations are distributed to can be seen at www.offsetalliance.co/projects.

*The amount shown is an estimation for this journey. The exact will be calculated at the time of booking based on the city of origin for flights to the destination, and the specifications of the itinerary.
